Technology
DWR (Durable Water Repellent): A special coating on the material that increases its resistance to water. It works by reducing the surface tension of the fibres - the liquid does not soak into the fabric, but forms droplets on the surface that simply slide down. This keeps the outer layer of the garment dry and light, which is crucial for the proper functioning of the breathable membranes underneath. Although DWR is not a complete waterproof barrier, it reliably protects against drizzle and dirt. To maintain the effect, it is advisable to renew the treatment over time with special impregnation products.
GORE-TEX®
WaterTight™: Technology developed for maximum protection against rain and moisture. It uses highly water-resistant zippers and design features that prevent water penetration even in heavy rain or high pressure. The zippers are designed to remain flexible and easy to operate while keeping the inside of your clothing or equipment perfectly dry. WaterTight™ technology is often used in technical jackets and outdoor gear where reliable protection from the elements is crucial.
AquaGuard®: A trade name for YKK water-resistant zippers. The fabric of the zipper is coated on one side with a polyurethane (PU) film that repels water, often with an additional DWR treatment for better dripping. As a result, the zipper significantly reduces the penetration of rain and snow into the garment or backpack, but is not designed for long immersion or high water pressure.
